Don’t Worry (I’m Still Alive)
"I never meant to bend
Never meant to follow your footsteps in the fire
No you will never break me
You will never change me
I have never felt so alive
I’m on my own
And I’m not looking back
I’ve gone this far
I’m going my own way
I’m leaving this fire behind
There’s nothing that can stop me now
This is my one chance to feel alive!"

While I was saddened when I first heard that my favorite band of the past decade (Strata) had lost their singer, I still held on to hope. I have seen countless bands that I consider extremely talented put out one CD, do a short tour, then for whatever reason, whether it's the pressure of the business side of music, or they just weren't making enough money to put food on the table, they called it quits. One CD, then Peace Out. I've got a stack of CD's that I wished the bands had been able to continue their careers in music, but were unable to.
Perhaps it's because Strata had made it to the sophomore stage. Or maybe it was because Adrian and the others were more determined than other bands have been. Whatever the reason, they persisted, found a new singer, and are now going by the moniker of Beta State. (I think that's the state right below Montana, but I could be wrong. Seriously, though, it's a really cool name if you think about it......Beta Waves are: "a pattern of high-frequency brain waves observed in normal persons upon sensory stimulation, esp. with light, or when they are engaging in purposeful mental activity.") Beta State are currently in the studio recording their new CD, due out this summer. You can check out three of their demo's by clicking on the title above.
As for me, at first I wasn't quite sure what to think of the new singer, but now after several listens, I can hear that he "fits" the band perfectly. And I just can't get enough of the song "Don't Worry (I'm Still Alive)." Been playing that one over and over in my iPod. Lyrical excerpts precede this post, though the passion in them really comes out when you listen to the song. So please check out their site and support one of the few good bands that are still putting out good music.
